Building an impressive champagne or prosecco tower is an excellent way to enhance any celebration, and it appears to be a common question many of you ask during pre-event discussions or bar enquiries.
In this blog post, we’ll share tips on constructing the perfect champagne tower. We'll also provide cocktail tower ideas featuring favourites like Aperol Spritz and Espresso Martinis. Let’s dive in!
Choosing the Right Glassware
To begin constructing your champagne tower, it's important to choose the appropriate glassware. Traditional champagne coupes are favoured for their vintage appeal and wide rim but also they are super practical when trying to pull this off!
Although some have suggested using flutes, in our experience, we advise against them as they are more likely to be unstable due to movement or wind, posing a risk of disaster.
Ensure you have enough glasses for all your guests, plus a few extras in case of spills. For example, if you're hosting a party for 30 guests, consider preparing at least 40 glasses to be safe. It doesn't mean you have to use every single glass in your tower (we actually wouldn't as again the risk is high!)
Preparing the Base
A solid base is crucial for your champagne tower. You can use a sturdy table or a decorative stand to create height and stability. If you’re going the table route, consider covering it with a beautiful tablecloth that matches your theme.
Your base glasses should be filled with their chosen drink as you create, serving as your foundation! It's similar to constructing a house—you wouldn't want the bricks of your house to be hollow!
Filling the Glasses
After your base is prepared, it's time to fill the glasses! Avoid starting by pouring champagne or prosecco into the top glass and letting it spill over into the glasses below. First, arrange your foundation layers; there's no need to fill the glasses completely to achieve a great look!
Once you pour the last few glasses at the top, you'll achieve a cascading effect that makes a champagne tower visually stunning.
To prevent spills, pour in a slow and steady manner. If you're using a sparkling wine with many bubbles, allow it to settle before pouring to reduce foam. Additionally, our top tip is to avoid using an expensive champagne for this (unless, of course, money is not a concern)!
Cocktail Tower Inspiration
If you want to elevate your tower experience further, consider creating a cocktail tower. A tower filled with Aperol Spritz or Espresso Martinis can be just as impressive and tasty!
Tips for Success
Practice Makes Perfect: If you're inexperienced in building towers, start by practicing with water. This will help you gain confidence in your pouring technique. Avoid attempting it for the first time on your wedding day! Additionally, if you're hiring a company, ensure they have prior experience with towers as well and your day isn't their practice!
Keep It Chilled: Ensure your champagne or cocktails are well-chilled before pouring. This will keep the bubbles lively and enhance the overall experience.
Have a Backup Plan: Be prepared for accidents! Keep extra glasses and a towel handy for any spills.
Consider Your Guests: Think about your guests’ preferences when selecting your drinks. Offering diverse options, including non-alcoholic beverages, ensures everyone can join in the fun.
